SAN MIGUEL ARCANGEL PARISH
Known by every inhabitant or visitor, The Parish of San Miguel Arcángel has become a representative icon of the city of San Miguel de Allende.

Due to the natural deterioration time has caused to the building, and in the search of bringing back its original image, the city government has taken the duty restoring the parish.
THE ORIGINAL PARISH
Soon after the foundation of San Miguel el Grande, now de Allende (1555), the parish was built. According to a 1649 document, San Miguel's church come down after severe deterioration. Then, by 1680 and 1690 the parish was condemned again, therefore, a new architectural project was begun under Marco Antonio Sobarías direction, ending around1709, though this time under a Baroque style.
A NEW IMAGE FOR THE PARISH
Between 1880 y 1890, a city's quarry master, Don Zeferino Gutiérrez, build a new facade inspired on the great architecnic edifications in the gothic style of the medieval Eurpe. As part of his work , the original towers were replaced with the ones we see today. He trasnformed the portrait, the niches, the choral window, and even the atrium, the tower clock, and the inner altars. On the inside, baroque pieces were replaced with stone , neoclassic altars. by the request of the priest Jose Alejandro de Quezada.

For this construction San Miguel's inhabitants donated quarry in diferent colors that gave to the parish an unusual polichromy.
