The

morning of that same day. The image remains in this
church until Wednesday, day in which returns to the
Sanctuary of Atotonilco at night. This tradition dates
from 1812 and it has been celebrated every year since.
It began as the result of an epidemic that whipped the
Villa that year; thus villagers decided to take the
image out so that it would bless and release the population
of then of that tragedy.

some of the churches which mount an altar. One can appreciate
this in places like La Santa Escuela de Cristo (the
holy school of Christ), La Parroquia (the Parish), San
Francisco, San Juan de Dios, the Oratory of San Felipe
Neri, etc. In the evening the houses of the faithful
devotees remain open, in some cases only the windows,
so that are visited by public in general to appreciate
the altars dedicated to the Santísima Virgen
(Holy Virgin). The hosts offer to the visitor fresh
water, ice cream, candies and the traditional conserve

of peoples houses, located in the streets of Correo,
Corregidora, Juárez, Mesones and Núñez,

The vaulted niches, although should de fourteen, are

Since the year of 1884 the traditional verbenas in the
streets of Recreo and Subida del Chorro took place,
regretfully this tradition began to fade away in 1895.
In these verbenas one could enjoy bands playing live,
fireworks, fights of roosters, and other entertaining
activities. The previous text comes off the notes of
the Actos Piadosos de Cuaresma y Semana Santa (Pious
Acts of Lent and Easter) whose data were gathered in
1954 by Donato Almanza Morales, father of the author
of this document, Don Genaro Almanza Ríos. |
